Wearside Pneumatics has helped a leading snack food manufacturer achieve an energy saving of over £45,000 per year at their Teesside factory.
Carrying out iiTrak energy monitoring on the ageing and inefficient equipment on site enabled our team to establish how much electricity the site was using and identify potential methods of reducing consumption.
Energy Saving through Variable Speed Drive technology
Our initial audit allowed us to simulate how a solution using Atlas Copco’s best-in-class technology would perform against the equipment that was in situ.
The simulation indicated that the existing, fixed speed compressors on site were wasting a lot of energy by operating in an unloaded state. This could be corrected by utilising a mixture of Variable Speed Drive and Fixed Speed compressors to ensure that the site received the air it requires in the most energy-efficient manner possible.
As a result of the simulation, our customer took the decision to invest in three new compressors. Wearside Pneumatics supplied, installed and commissioned a GA110VSD+, a GA30 and a G160 to replace outdated non-Atlas Copco machines.
Following the equipment upgrade, our engineers repeated the iiTrak energy monitoring during a week of full production to verify the savings made. This demonstrated that the customer’s annual energy costs had been reduced from £369,387 to £324,284 a saving of £45,103 or 13%.
Wearside Pneumatics is now working with the customer on other projects which are designed to provide additional reductions in energy consumption. These will potentially see the site upgrade to new Atlas Copco nitrogen generation and vacuum solutions.
