Wearside Pneumatics Ltd recently acquired the maintenance work at a new food production site based in the North East.
While at this site, one of our sales engineers briefly mentioned to the customer that improvements could be made to their existing compressed air system. This included energy savings and an improved air quality standard on site.
The customer kept this information in mind, and when some capital expenditure became available, they contacted us and we carried out a free #airCHECK survey. The survey included an energy audit report by logging their existing Ingersoll Rand N45 45kw variable speed air compressor and comparing the energy savings with a new Atlas Copco GA VSD+ compressor, as well as look at any other possible improvements to their compressed air system.
After completing the free #airCHECK survey, the energy audit report showed that they were only using around 60% of the capacity of their existing air compressor, and also depicted the possible energy savings the customer would benefit from.
However, the client mentioned that they wanted additional system capacity for any production expansion in the future.
Wearside Pneumatics quoted and supplied an Atlas Copco GA55VSD+ P FM 55kw variable speed air compressor, Atlas Copco 2000 litre galvanised vertical air receiver, Atlas Copco FD220VSD variable speed refrigerant air dryer, Atlas Copco BD185+ heat regenerated desiccant air dryer with filtration, and an Atlas Copco ODT185 active carbon tower. This has helped the customer to achieve higher air quality standard ISO 8573-1:2010 Class 1.2.1 -40°c PDP, which is suitable for direct contact food applications and offers additional system capacity for any expansion in the future.
We completed the whole installation using Atlas Copco’s AIRnet aluminium compressed air piping system.
The Atlas Copco GA55VSD+ P FM 55kw IE5 offered the customer an energy saving of 16% or £2,207.00 per annum based on a 10p/kWh rate cost for electricity compared to their existing Ingersoll Rand N45 45kw variable speed air compressor. The Atlas Copco FD220VSD variable speed refrigerant air dryer would also offer up to a 70% indirect energy savings compared to a conventional refrigerant air dryer, offsetting the running costs of the Atlas Copco BD185+ heat regenerated desiccant air dryer with filtration, which will achieve the higher air quality standard for the site.
